Audiovisual Institute of Monaco

The Institute’s role is to identify, collect, restore, protect, conserve, distribute and promote:
-  audio and still and animated images, whether professional or amateur, having some connection with the Principality of Monaco;
-  related documents;
- audiovisual documents or films entrusted to the Institute;
- audiovisual production, by organising projects using material from the archives.
Through these roles, the Institute aims to raise public awareness about the need to conserve and use film as an educational, historic and cultural resource.
Since its inception, it has been committed to a policy of collecting cinematographic and audiovisual documents from Monaco’s various institutions and from private individuals. Although the collections are largely composed of documents with some connection to the Principality of Monaco, other pieces of film or recordings are kept as a means of preserving international audiovisual heritage. Among the items held and promoted by the Institute are the audiovisual collections of Télé Monte-Carlo and “Monaco Info”, the Principality’s news channel.

The Institute also collects a variety of items relating to cinema and its history, including photographs, posters, magazines and books, and memorabilia.
This “non-film” collection is built up through donations, items entrusted to the Institute, and acquisitions.
Since 1998, the Institute has distributed the Principality’s audiovisual heritage under the “Monaco on film” label. It also takes part in cultural events and organisations such as the Printemps des Arts spring festival, or the Prince Pierre of Monaco Foundation, and frequently works on exhibitions with the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco.
In 2004, the Institute committed to a policy of promoting Monaco’s artistic and cinematographic culture, by organising an annual cycle of screenings known as “Cinema Tuesdays. ”
