5th Monaco World Sports Legends Award - The Oscars of Sport

The 5th edition of the prestigious Monaco World Sports Legends Award, the Oscars of Sport, will take place on Thursday 30th
November (Media Day) and on Friday 1st December for the Award Ceremony and Gala Dinner-Show with Red Carpet held
in the beautiful Le Grand Salon of the Fairmont Monte Carlo.

The first day is dedicated to the Media with the Talk Show “Sporting Stars: the Man or the Woman behind the champion”, the official interviews and the Press Conference followed by a cocktail and VIP dinner.

The Awards Ceremony with the Red Carpet and Gala Dinner concludes the second day of the event.

The Monaco World Sports Legends Award - the Oscars of Sport - aims at promoting sport’s ethical and moral values in order to inspire the new generations.

The Awarded gain entry to the Pantheon of World Sporting Legends by leaving their hand prints.

A particular feature of the event, which was conceived and produced by Promo Art Monte-Carlo Production, is that of linking sport with entertainment, art, fashion and glamour, making WSLA a unique showcase on an international scale: the Oscars of Sport.

The World Sport Legends Award’s Red Carpet is among Monte Carlo’s most prestigious and has become the place to be. 

For this, there are special appearances by celebrities, cinema stars, sport champions and VIPs.

The event is presented by the international star, Lorena Baricalla, Ambassadress and Master of Ceremonies of the Monaco World Sports Legends Award.

The statuette for the Oscars of Sport is the work of the international artist, Marcos Marin, who has painted the portraits of some of the world’s most influential men and women. Marin created a sculpture which brings together all the symbolism and values of WSLA. 

The Prize “World Sports Legends Award” is presented to sporting champions both active or retired, who have distinguished themselves not only for their sporting exploits but also for their example as inspiring role models for the new generations.

  • 2016 : Giacomo Agostini, Carl Fogarty, Mika Häkkinen, Tia Hellebaut, Grand Master Jhong Uhk Kim, Sir Anthony McCoy, Jean-Marie Pfaff, Pernilla Wiberg
  • 2017 : Michael Doohan, Jacky Ickx, Josefa Idem, Michèle Mouton, Armin Zöggeler
  • 2018 : Osvaldo Ardiles, Jutta Kleinschmidt, Freddie Spencer
  • 2019 : Nasser Al-Attiyah, Mario Andretti, Loris Capirossi, Ana Gabriela Guevara

The Prize “WSLA Best Sports Values” is awarded to an athlete who stands out for an exemplary sporting gesture which embodies sport’s ethical and moral values, or to well-known people for their community support through sport.

  • 2016 : Victor Tello, for Promotora Mexicana De Valores Deportivos A.C.
  • 2018 : Docteur Claudio Costa, doctor and founder of the Mobile Clinic in MotoGp, which has saved the lives of many champions
  • 2019 : Connie Henry, former international athlete of Triple Jump she founded Track Academy in order to help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds through Athletics

The Prize “WSLA Posthumous Award” is conferred on great champions with legendary careers or to well-known people who operated in the sporting sector.

  • 2016 : Antony Noghès, for having created the Monaco Grand Prix in 1929, the Rallye Monte-Carlo in 1911, the checkered flag used to end races in 1931. The Prize has been received by Yann-Antony Noghès and Lionel Noghès.
  • 2018 : Ayrton Senna, 3 times Formula 1 World Champion and one of Formula 1’s greatest legends. The Award has been received by his niece, Bianca Senna, President of the “Instituto Ayrton Senna”
  • 2019 : Ferenc Puskás, Football Champion and Legend of the Football world, in the year of the inauguration of the national stadium of his nation named after him. This is also the 10th anniversary of the launch of FIFA Puskás Award, the global prize for the goal of the year). The Award has been received by his grand-daughter Ane De Juan Damborena and the Olympic Champion Pál Schmitt, former president of Hungary

The Prize “WSLA Sport and Cinema“ rewards a person who has valued sport in the world of cinema.

  • 2019 : Julius R. Nasso recognition of his worldwide successful martial arts and action movies with Warner Bros. and for his work in the entertainment sector

 

The WSLA is an event which is enjoying ever greater success, and only seven years since its inception, it is worth noting that on its 10 social networks and web channels, the photos and videos of the Oscars of Sport attract round 6,420,000 unique views per year
