European Heritage Days: Princess Grace Irish Library
The Princess Grace Irish Library is located on Le Rocher, on the second floor of a historic building dating back some one hundred years, the former home of Count Félix Gastaldi (1821-1906). The house, with its singular architecture, is very welcoming both inside and out, and boasts superb painted ceilings. The heart of the library is the personal collection of H.S.H. Princess Grace;
a collection of Irish literary masterpieces, paintings, musical scores and historical documents. It also consists of art treasures, a superb collection of photos of official visits by the Princely Family to the Emerald Isle and a permanent exhibition of photos by the famous Irish photographer John Minihan. Princess Grace's grandfather was born and raised in Ireland. He emigrated from County Mayo to the United States in 1887 at the age of 20.
