In the family-run shop, Irénée, a humble grocer, is bored. He dreams of becoming a movie star. When a group of people from the Parisian film industry arrives in the village, his hopes are raised. Could lady luck be smiling on him?
Amused by the wide-eyed Irénée's ambitions, the filmmakers give him a role as a joke. Overcome with pride and excitement, he ignores the wise counsel of those around him and strides confidently - albeit naively - into a world known for its falseness.
