MEDIEVAL BATTLES AT THE CHAPITEAU DE L’ESPACE FONTVIEILLE IN MONACO

The international medieval combat association Magna Carta proudly announces the “Malizia” Tournament,
to be held on February 7 beneath the legendary dome of the Chapiteau de l’Espace Fontvieille in Monaco.
This remarkable event continues the long-standing regional tradition of buhurt tournaments,
where warriors compete in historically accurate armor using blunted weapons.

Under the vast canopy, elite teams from France, Italy, and Spain will face one another in the spectacular
7-versus-7 category. Designed to unite enthusiasts of historical reenactment and competitive sport alike,
the tournament promises a powerful visual experience and an engaging, family-friendly event for the weekend.

Magna Carta is more than an association; in the spirit of the Middle Ages, it is an order. Its mission is to
cultivate a passion for history, preserve the unique legacy of medieval culture, support traditional crafts,
and offer participants an immersive journey into the past. Here, the ideals of chivalry and courage are
nurtured alongside creativity and deep respect for historical heritage. Today, Magna Carta brings together
over 25 teams from four continents — Europe, Asia, North America, and South America.

The Chapiteau de l’Espace Fontvieille, conceived and inaugurated at the initiative of Prince Rainier III
of Monaco, achieved worldwide renown as the iconic home of the Festival International du Cirque
de Monte-Carlo. Its prime location, storied name, and capacity to welcome large audiences
made it the natural choice for hosting the Magna Carta battles.

On February 7, teams in Monaco will consist of twelve fighters, with seven entering combat while
the remaining warriors stand ready in reserve. Spectators will witness intense, high-level full-contact battles,
immerse themselves in the aesthetics of the medieval world, and admire armor and costumes crafted with
meticulous historical accuracy. The Monaco tournament will proudly open the Magna Carta 2026 season.
