Professor Florence Askenazy, psychiatrist, in dialogue with Alain Ehrenberg, sociologist, author of The child who worries, Odile Jacob, 2025

What does the child who worries worry about? About difficult socialisation, about autonomy that is hard to acquire, about lack of recognition of who they are or want to be? And what do those around them worry about, when the child says they are not well – those who listen to them, educate them, protect them, care for them if necessary – or do nothing at all? Have our societies made the conditions for access to autonomy, which all educational and therapeutic projects nonetheless aim for, more difficult? And what has increased the reasons why children, adolescents and young adults "are not doing well"? What rules, what regulations, what behaviours, what moral values, what psychological, social, even political perspectives, must be modified to best ensure the harmonious development of a child?
