To open this third edition of the Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo entitled "My End is My Beginning", the Ensemble Gilles Binchois returns to the origins of the mass for the dead with Johannes Ockeghe's Requiem, the oldest known. Sandro Compagnon's saxophone brings a counterpoint of loops and modern rondos, to music by Luciano Berio and Bruno Mantovani.

Following their triumphant concert devoted to the music of Felix Mendelssohn last year, Insula Orchestra and their leader Laurence Equilbey are returning to the Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo for two programmes. The first features the symphonic works of Franz Schubert, with all the theatrical drama of his "Tragic" Symphony and the mystery of his "Unfinished" Symphony.

The Unisoni Ensemble performs a selection of French and Italian baroque music in an wildlife-themed concert: from Carlo Farina's 'Capriccio stravagante' to Jean-Philippe Rameau's 'La Poule', the instruments' beautiful imitation of animal sounds are at times quite clear, and at others more subtly concealed amid the virtuoso notes.

The Ensemble Clément Janequin and Les Sacqueboutiers perform a "Battle Mass", reconstituted from famous fragments of 15th and 16th century music with a warlike theme. The concert begins with Pierre de La Rue's dark Requiem, completing the link with Ockeghem's Requiem from the opening concert.
