Pablo Picasso, the undisputed protagonist of modern art, was interested throughout his career in the heritage of ancient Greek and Roman cultures. Mythological figures, classical compositions and naturalistic visual idioms abound in the artist's prolific oeuvre, which spans almost eight decades.
