The IHO, an intergovernmental organization with its secretariat based in Monaco, coordinates the activities of its 98 member states to map the oceans. This helps to enrich our knowledge of the marine environment and supports activities such as navigation, the development of the blue economy and the sustainable use of the oceans, etc. Despite the technological advances that have been made over the years, some traditional techniques, such as measuring depths with lead sounder and using sextants to navigate, are still in use.

European Heritage Days: Cantin d'A Roca
September 24, 2023
In 1993, the Comité National des Traditions Monégasques decided to re-establish Monegasque language classes for adults. These included Jo DI PASQUA (musician, songwriter) and a number of former master students. The revival of our language, as requested by H.S.H. Prince Rainier III, led to contemporary lyricists and composers writing new songs (notably poems by Paulette CHERICI-PORELLO, Alex BOVINI, Georges FRANZI, Ange FASCIOLO and Louis PRINCIPALE were set to music by Jo DI PASQUA), not forgetting the existing musical heritage of Louis NOTARI, Marc CURTI, Henri CROVETTO and José BERGONZI. In 1995, it was decided to create a group of singers, and so "U Cantin d'a Roca" (La Chanterelle du Rocher) was born.

The house, with its singular architecture, is very welcoming both inside and out, and boasts superb painted ceilings. The heart of the library is the personal collection of H.S.H. Princess Grace; a collection of Irish literary masterpieces, paintings, musical scores and historical documents. It also consists of art treasures, a superb collection of photos of official visits by the Princely Family to the Emerald Isle and a permanent exhibition of photos by the famous Irish photographer John Minihan. Princess Grace's grandfather was born and raised in Ireland. He emigrated from County Mayo to the United States in 1887 at the age of 20.

September 24, 2023
For this new edition of the Monegasque Heritage Day, we'd like to evoke the skills and traditions that stem from interaction with the living world, highlighting the richness of the interactions that man cultivates with his environment, mentioning the (co)relationships and exchanges between human communities and other living beings (animals, plants, bacteria...) and thus integrating the idea of the living in the proper sense into this definition of living heritage, which still seems too reduced to human beings alone.
